Living In: South Ozone Park

Share Info About South Ozone Park
Located in Southeastern Queens, the residential neighborhood of South Ozone Park has a quiet suburban atmosphere. This section is roughly bounded by the Aqueduct Racetrack to the west and Liberty Avenue at the north, and bordered by the Van Wyck Expressway and JFK Airport to the south and east. Given the abundance of duplexes and single-family houses, it isn't always easy finding available South Ozone Park apartments. Nonetheless, the NY apartments in this part of Queens have quite affordable rents, and are often in private homes. South Ozone Park is a simple neighborhood, with several small houses and low-rise apartment buildings, often of identical style. This neighborhood is best known for the Aqueduct Racetrack, one of the only attractions around. Liberty Avenue is the largest shopping strip in South Ozone Park, and has a variety of retail and restaurants. Here, fast food chains mingle with bakeries and ice cream parlors. This is the neighborhood's main drag, and the stores satisfy basic needs. Unfortunately, only citizens living north of Linden Boulevard have walkable access to the subway system. Even at that, Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd Station is the end of the line for the Lefferts branch of the A Train, so no quick commute. However, the QM18 express bus also serves the neighborhood, with a limit of five daily, weekday trips to Manhattan. Choosing a Midtown commute via bus would entail about an hour trip to work. The wide streets and driveways show the car-centric nature of this neighborhood. Many Eastern Queens residents argue that a car is often necessary for running errands. Signing a lease on a South Ozone Park apartment is a wise choice for those who seek affordability and don't mind a long commute.
