Searingtown is a small unincorporated neighborhood measuring slightly less than a square mile located in the town of North Hempstead in Nassau County on New York's Long Island. It is in the greater Roslyn area, close to the village of Roslyn. Its borders are amorphous, as it is an unincorporated area. It shares a zip code, school district, and post office with the neighboring Albertson, and it is generally regarded as the nicer part of the same town. Essentially, it is the Eagleton to Albertson's Pawnee. Searingtown is bordered to the north Roslyn Estates, to the east by Albertson, to the south by Herricks and Williston Park, and to the west by Manhasset Hills. Its borders are roughly defined by the Northern State Parkway, the Deepdale Parkway, Searingtown and Shelter Rock Road, and Oak Ridge Lane. Searingtown is an upper-middle-class neighborhood that is popular with families. Because of its proximity to the Long Island Expressway, it is an easy drive into Manhattan, taking only roughly 45 minutes. Those commuting by rail need only to travel to the neighboring Albertson to take the Long Island Rail Road, providing service to Penn Station via the Oyster Bay line. Children in Searingtown attend schools within the Herricks Union Free School District, as well as residents from Albertson, Herricks, Garden City Park, Manhasset Hills, North Hills, and Williston Park. Elementary School students can attend Denton Avenue Elementary School, Center Street Elementary School, and Searingtown Elementary School. Students then attend Herricks Middle School and Herricks High School. Herricks High School, located within Searingtown's borders, is known as a particularly good school, having been named one of the top 100 high schools in the nation by Newsweek, and 17th best in New York State. The school offers 25 Advanced Placement courses to high-achieving students, including Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Calculus, Macro- and Microeconomics, US History and Government, World History, Literature, Computer Science, French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Art, and Music Theory. There is an active music department in the school, offering ten different performing ensembles for budding musicians. The high school also offers a variety of extracurricular activities, including DECA (a group for aspiring leaders in marketing, management and entrepreneurship), Model Congress, Quiz Bowl, and a school newspaper (Highlander) and literary magazine (Opus). There are also several sports offered, including football, badminton, softball, baseball, tennis, soccer, wrestling, volleyball, lacrosse, roller hockey, basketball, bowling, fencing, swimming, track, and cheerleading.
