Located in the Pascack Valley area of Bergen County, New Jersey, River Vale is a 4.3 square mile suburban district. River Vale is bordered by the New Jersey towns of Montvale, Park Ridge, Woodcliff Lake, Hillsdale, Westwood, Emerson, Harrington Park, Old Tappan and to the north, Pearl River, New York. Recognized as the "Garden Spot" of the Pascack Valley, River Vale is a quiet town community with tree-lined streets, outstanding schools and great recreation facilities. River Vale has only two traffic lights but also three golf courses- River Vale Country Club, Valley Brook County Golf Course and Edgewood Country Club. In addition, its accessibility to New York City, which is less than 30 miles to Midtown, makes this popular with commuters. To get to River Vale, New Jersey, one would need to take the Pascack Valley Line from Secaucus to the Park Ridge train station (Park Ridge is a town bordering River Vale). One could take a train on the busier Main-Bergen County Line to Ridgewood, NJ. Whichever way you prefer to get to Manhattan it would take you roughly over an hour. "Four Corners" is the town's active business and commercial district. River Vale offers shops, restaurants, and medical facilities. There is plenty of school / town spirit here, which is apparent during the Township parades, community day and other events. In 2007, River Vale was ranked #29 on the 100 Best Places to live survey published by CNN. A main attraction as to why so many young families are moving to River Vale is due largely to the amazing school district; Roberge Elementary School, Woodside Elementary School, Holdrum Middle School. The school district was awarded in 2006 for the Best Practices Award by the New Jersey Department of Education. If you're planning on working in Manhattan, River Vale is still the place to raise a family, as the upscale community has many residents that commute to Manhattan daily. River Vale is mostly a white collar village. While a small population rent their homes, many people own their single family homes, with the majority of homes being 2 bedroom plus in size. Numerous families with children live here, making it a place where both children and parents are more likely to develop social ties with other families. The town encourages its residence to take a look at joining their local country clubs. They believe it's a great way to stay active while becoming closer with the community and talking about important local topics.
