Share Info About Pelham Bay / Middletown
Situated in the eastern section of the Bronx is Pelham Bay, which sits in a pocket near the southeast corner of Pelham Bay Park. This part of town is quite residential, and has a variety of housing styles and sizes. Parts of Pelham Bay are sometimes referred to as Middletown, after the road and subway station located in the neighborhood. Many blocks are lined with the traditional brick-and-mortar rowhouses (mainly detached), while other blocks feature individual homes and duplexes. Although fairly distant from Manhattan, are often found in low-rise pre-war buildings. If you need to be close to the subway, but don't mind a long commute from your affordable apartment, this community is worth a look. A good-sized chunk of Eastern Bronx is completely isolated from the subway. But luckily, Pelham Bay doesn't follow this rule. In fact, the number 6 train runs directly through the neighborhood, following Westchester Avenue up to the line's end. Just about every apartment in this community has easy walking access to the train, as there are three stations in Pelham Bay. Taking the subway, however, requires quite some time on the train. So for those who prefer a quieter, more comfortable ride with fewer stops, the BxM8 express bus conveniently travels down Westchester Avenue. This bus will take passengers into Midtown Manhattan in under an hour--which is often a good option for daily commuters. Just as the name suggests, this neighborhood borders the largest park in New York City. That's right--one of the Bronx's most cherished greenspaces is over three times the size of Manhattan's Central Park (and without the heavy planning). In fact, unlike Central Park's landscaped features, Pelham Bay Park stands apart with its natural beauty. The wonderful landscape not only houses a wildlife sanctuary, but effortlessly blends in with its waterfront surroundings. Here, residents of Pelham Bay apartments can enjoy the borough's only public beach (Orchard Beach), as well as some of the most spectacular natural elements of the City. Like the traffic might suggest, Westchester Avenue is the main thoroughfare in this part of town. Most of Pelham Bay's restaurants and bakeries are located along this strip, together with a Planet Fitness Gym, and other local shops. But for the heavier errands, a trip out of the neighborhood might be necessary. With accessibility to the subway, Pelham Bay apartments are good options for affordable rentals in the Bronx.
