The town of Oceanside is located in the southern part of the town of Hempstead in Nassau County in Long Island, New York. With a population of just over 30,000 people, Oceanside is on the slightly larger size of many Long Island, New York communities. For many reasons, Oceanside is a great choice to reside for families in New York. These include the ample amenities available to locals restaurants, shopping centers, movie theatres, and other entertainment venues. The crime rate is very low in Oceanside and the education and employment opportunities are great. The Long Beach Branch of the Long Island Railroad passes directly through Oceanside. Oceanside students attend school at a variety of public schools in the area. The schools in Oceanside have adopted numerical names, from one through nine, although #1 was closed in the Eighties. Currently, schools #2-5, 8 and 9E serve as elementary schools; #6 is solely a kindergarten center; #7 is the town's high school; and #9M is the middle school. Oceanside, New York has had a fair amount of celebrities, professional athletes and renowned actors, authors, musicians, scientists and notable CEOs who have lived in Oceanside at some point during their lives. Most memorable actors and actresses from Oceanside include Timothy Johnson, Lori Loughlin, Gina Mastrogiacomo, David Paymer, Frank Pellegrino, and Michael Rosenbaum. Professional athletes include figure skater Samantha Cesario, Major League Baseball Player John Costello, NFL quarterback Jay Fielder, baseball pitcher John Frascatore, and the 2000 NYC Sportscaster of the Year Al Trautwig. Authors and musicians from the town include Glenn Gordon Caron, Susie Fishbein and Howard Stelzer. Disney CEO Bob Iger also calls Oceanside his home, along with NASA astronaut Michael James Massimino and Harold E. Varmus, the co-recipient of the 1989 Nobel Prize in Medicine. Thomas Masaryk, the Father of the Czech Nation lived in Oceanside for a time during his exile of 1918. Fun note after the opening of its flagship restaurant in Coney Island, Nathan's Hot Dogs opened its second restaurant in Oceanside!
