Living In: Morris Park

Share Info About Morris Park
Morris Park is a residential neighborhood with a strong sense of community. This section of the East Bronx offers a great deal of housing options, from rentals in detached rowhouses, to low-rise apartment complexes and other, various-sized multifamily buildings. If you're looking for affordability, you're probably bound to find the typical low-rent NY apartment in one of the big-box buildings. And although situated in a notably inaccessible section of the borough, residents of Morris Park apartments have more than a few options when it comes to taking public transportation out of the neighborhood. The Bronx is famous for its massive greenspaces in the northern half of the borough, and lucky for those living in Morris Park, this neighborhood is fairly close to three of them. The Bronx Zoo, the New York Botanical Gardens lie to the west past Bronxdale, while Pelham Bay Park sits to the east, just beyond Middletown. And although the New York Botanical Garden is a year-round attraction, Pelham Bay Park is somewhat of a natural escape with a public beach perfect for the summer months. At over 2,700 acres, this particular park is the largest in New York City, wrapping its greenery through the inlets and coves of the Long Island Sound. Even more attractive is the fact that the Bx12 bus travels right along the Pelham Parkway, providing direct access to Pelham Bay Park and Orchard Beach (and both the Zoo and Botanical Gardens in the opposite direction). But for that daily commute or night out in Manhattan, a few options make for an accessible (and bearable) trip downtown. The number 5 train brushes the eastern side of Morris Park, serving the neighborhood at two stations. But for those who prefer to take the express buses to the city, the BxM10 can accomplish the trip in about the same amount of time--however, for more than twice the cost. Considering its residential nature, Morris Park offers quite a few attractions right in town. This neighborhood is particularly famous for its Columbus Day Parade, which has been operating annually since 1977. Also unique is the Bronx Military Museum, where local residents have donated an array of military items and memorabilia to be placed on public display. Also in town is the highly-respected Patricia's Restaurant, a local Italian favorite right on Morris Park Avenue. I challenge you to find a neighborhood that rivals this one in activities, and nearby entertainment. And with its fairly affordable rents, Morris Park apartments are often a satisfying choice for those looking for a fun place in the outer boroughs.
