Lakeview is located in Nassau County, New York, spanning approximately 1.2 square miles and home to just under six thousand New Yorkers. Lakeview is shares borders with West Hempstead, South Hempstead, Lynbrook, and Malverne to the north, east, south, and west respectively. Public transportation options accessible to the Lakeview community include the Nassau Inter-County Express bus service and Long Island Rail Road with connections available to MTA New York City Transit. The Lakeview station of the Long Island Rail Road is located at the intersection of Woodfield Road and Eagle Avenue. Travel to Manhattan takes approximately one hour and thirty minutes by public transport. The same trip takes approximately forty-five minutes travelling by car via the Cross Island Parkway, I-495 W, or I-95 S. Hempstead Lake State Park is located partially in west Lakeview, serving as a border between Lakeview and Rockville Centre. The park is an expansive multi-use destination including twenty tennis courts, children's playgrounds, basketball courts, bridle trails for horse back riding, biking and hiking trails, shaded picnic areas, and an historic carousel. There are also areas available to house local events and parties. The park is also home to three ponds in addition to Hempstead Lake, the largest in Nassau County. Two of the ponds, McDonald and South, in addition to the lake are accessible for fishing. Common species are large mouth bass, chain pickerel, black crappie, perch, tiger muskies, carp, and sunfish. The lake is stocked with trout. The Hempstead Golf & Country Club is located at the northernmost point of Lakeview. Formed in 1920 as the Hempstead Golf Club, it has grown into a 122 acre estate including and 18-hole golf course designed by Peter Lees. The Hempstead clubhouse has been expanded numerous times since the 1920s and was originally a farmhouse built in 1756. Other club amenities include a swimming pool, four Har-Tru tennis courts, and four AMF bowling alleys. Over the years Hempstead has housed four MGA championships. The Malverne and West Hempstead Union Free School Districts serve the community of Lakeview. West Hempstead Union Free School District is comprised of Chestnut Street School, Cornwell Avenue School, George Washington School, West Hempstead Middle, and West Hempstead High. The Malverne Union Free School District is comprised of Davison Avenue School, Maurice W. Downing School, Howard T. Herber Middle School, and Malverne Senior High School. The Lakeview Public Library has served the community since 1962.
