The commute to Manhattan is approximately 90 minutes by public transportation and 60 by personal vehicle. The State University of New York at Old Westbury is located partially in Jericho as well as Old Westbury. The University is the only public liberal arts college on Long Island and has a student body of approximately 4,000. Founded in 1965 by the State University Board of Trustees, SUNY offers forty degrees from its three schools: The School of Arts and Sciences, The School of Business, and The School of Education. The Jericho Public Library has served the community of Jericho and students of the Jericho Union Free School District and SUNY. The library offers an impressive catalog of programs and services including an art gallery, cultural bus trips, young adult programs, and an expansive catalog of digital content. The Meadow Brook Club is a private golf club in Jericho. The club was originally the Meadow Brook Hunt Club and famous for the Meadow Brook Hounds. Former United States President Theodore Roosevelt was an avid hunter and member of the hunt club, which met at his home in the late 1800s. The members participated in drag hunting with the aid of their hounds. Meadow Brook expanded to include the Meadow Brook Polo Club and its first nine-hole golf course, more closely resembling the club as it is today. Since the 1955 construction of a new course by L.S. Wilson, the club has hosted a number of major tournaments including the Metropolitan PGA Championships. The historic NYCB Theatre at Westbury has housed all kinds of entertainment since it was originally constructed in 1956. The original theater could only house 1,850 spectators. After ten years and a $1M renovation in 1966, the theater now sits three thousand visitors and is a popular destination for touring entertainers and the community of Jericho.
