Living In: Jamaica Estates

Share Info About Jamaica Estates
Jamaica Estates is an incredibly charming Queens neighborhood, with a secluded suburban feel. The streets are beautifully lined with full, mature trees and single-family homes that are very well-kept. The area's light slopes make for gorgeous, winding roads that add to the character of this affluent Queens neighborhood. Midland Parkway runs north and south through the neighborhood, with a gorgeous tree-lined median. Yet, among the stunning homes sit quite a few apartment buildings on this parkway, though many others are situated along Hillside Avenue. The neighborhood is bordered to the north by Union Turnpike (and Utopia & Fresh Meadows), to the south by Hillside Avenue (and Hollis), and to the west by Utopia Parkway & Homelawn Street (Jamaica Hills & Hillcrest). Jamaica Estates provides a relaxing and safe environment to raise a family. The community is home to the Queens campus of the United Nations International School, which was once intended only for children of UN diplomats, but is now open for enrollment to all. There are a few public transportation options for commuting into Manhattan. The F train serves Jamaica Estates through the 179th and 169th Street Stations, but the subway isn't the only option. Several local Queens buses travel along the avenues, as well as express buses to Manhattan that take about 30-45 minutes.
