Share Info About Hillcrest
Sitting in Queens' ring of parks is the neighborhood of Hillcrest--a residential community somewhat reminiscent of American suburbia. There is a limited selection of NY apartments in this area, as most of the streets are lined with single-family homes. Although you will find only a few "brown box" buildings in around the neighborhood, the typical Hillcrest apartments will be located within simple rowhouses or duplexes. Hillcrest doesn't adjoin a particular park, but is instead, within a short distance from many. The neighborhood is situated just within the green crescent, providing residents with access to Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, and the parks of the Kissena Corridor. For one, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park is a Queens favorite, and standing at over 1,200 acres, it is the city's second-largest greenspace. This massive recreation space was once home to both of New York's World Fairs, and maintains many structures from the events. If you don't drive a car, commuting from your Hillcrest apartment might be more of a hassle than you might expect. Although the neighborhood's proximity to Grand Central Parkway and the Van Wyck Expressway make for an auto-friendly trip to Manhattan, there is rather limited access to the city's train system. However, the few station stops that lie beyond Hillcrest's boundaries (as well as Jamaica's Long Island Rail Road Station) are accessible by a short bus ride. But don't forget about the city's reliable bus system! No matter where in Hillcrest you live, you will have easy access to one of six express buses. In fact, a hop on the QM4 bus can take you into Midtown Manhattan in as little as 35 minutes. The main block of this community is the campus of St. John's University, one of New York's many world renown institutes. This community's mix of tall trees, lawns, and set-back homes make Hillcrest a great location to relocate your family.
