The hamlet of Hewlett is located in Nassau County, New York on the South Shore of Long Island. Hewlett spans approximately 0.9 square miles and is the home to just under seven thousand New Yorkers as of the 2010 Unites States Census. Hewlett is included as one of the Five Towns in the southwestern corner of Nassau County along with the villages of Lawrence, Cedarhurst, and the hamlets of Woodmere and Inwood. Hewlett itself is often referred to collectively as The Hewletts, including Hewlett, Hewlett Bay Park, Hewlett Harbor, Hewlett Neck, and Woodsbirgh. Public transit available to the Hewlett community includes the Long Island Railway and the Nassau Inter-County Express bus line. The Lynbrook Union Free and Hewlett-Woodmere School Districts serve the students of Hewlett. Hewlett Woodmere is comprised of five schools: Franklin Early Childhood Center, Hewlett Elementary School, Ogden Elementary School, Woodmere Middle School, and George W. Hewlett High School. Lynbrook-Woodmere is comprised of Lynbrook Kindergarten Center, West End Elementary, Waverly Park Elementary, Marion Street Elementary, Lynbrook North Middle, Lynbrook South Middle, and Lynbrook Senior High. The Yeshiva of South Shore, and its high school, Mesivta Ateres Yaakovare located in Hewlett as well. The Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library is the music and art co-central library of the Nassau Library System. It serves the communities of the Hewlett-Woodmore Public School District. Grant Park is located in southwest Hewlett. It covers 35 acres and includes a complete recreational and sports complex, three turfed baseball fields, play area, gazebos, adult workout area, tennis, paddleball, handball, and basketball courts, two picnic areas, and horseshoe pits. Grant Pond is at the center of Grant Park, surrounded by paths, walkways, and trees. There is also a roller rink, which converts to an ice rink in the winter. Other parks located within The Hewletts include Hewlett Point Park and Barrett Park. The Seawane Club is a private golf and country club founded in 1927 that is located in Hewlett Harbor, New York. It is on the south shore and borders an inlet of Hewlett Bay. It is home to an eighteen-hole golf course, ten tennis courts, a swimming pool, bar, restaurant, grill room, mens and women's card room, locker rooms, and a health club complete with masseur, trainers, and a barbershop. It was awarded the New York Sports Writers Association Golf Club of the year in 2004. The golf course, designed by Devereux Emmet, underwent a major renovation from 2001-2006.
