The hamlet of Herricks is located in Nassau County, New York, and is a community in the southern part of the Town of North Hempstead. Herricks spans approximately 0.6 square miles and is home to just under 4,300 New Yorkers. Searingtown, East Williston, Garden City Park, and Manhasset Hills border it to the north, east, south, and west respectively. Herricks is approximately a forty-minute drive to from Manhattan and approximately ninety minutes by public transportation. The Long Island Railroad provides public transport to Herricks as well as the Nassau Inter-County Express bus service. The Herricks Union Free School District is comprised of Herricks High School, Herricks Middle School, Denton Avenue Elementary School, Center Street Elementary School, and Searingtown Elementary School. One of the oldest single-room schools, The Herricks School, was established in 1813 and was one of the last remaining by 1898. The district serves Herricks as well as Garden City Park, Manhasset Hills, Searingtown, North Hills, Williston Park, and Albertson. The Shelter Rock and Williston Park Public Libraries serve the community and its students. The late Bernard Goudreau founded the Goudreau Museum of Mathematics in Arts and Science in 1980. An engineer and mathematics teacher, Goudreau sought to create an environment to foster the learning and development of mathematical principles through the practical application of modeling and geometric simulation. The museum offers a wide variety of programs for students and the general public, including the opportunity to build models, explore games and puzzles, view exhibits, in addition to the access to a mathematics resource library and specialized programs. Herricks Community Theater is home to the Herricks Community Players, a non-profit organization providing musical theater entertainment to the Long Island Community. Established over forty years ago, the Players have recently presented productions of The Producers,' Sugar Babies,' Steel Magnolias,' Annie,' and Young Frankenstein.' Herricks Park is a small park located at the northwestern corner of Herricks. A small pond with ducks lies in the center with park benches surrounding. A walking path runs along the perimeter and over the water as well. The Spring Rock Golf Center features a driving range, putting green, sand trap, and two miniature golf courses with 18 and 21 holes. A pro shop, patio and snack bar are also available to visitors. Iceland Long Island is an indoor ice hockey rink located in Herricks. The facility houses public sessions, parties, a skating school, and both house and adult hockey leagues.
