Covering 17.4 square miles, Harrison is home to roughly 27,000 people in approximately 9,000 homes. The town combines expansive residential acreage as well as the more fast-paced atmosphere of downtown neighborhoods. Roughly shaped in a figure-8, Harrison is divided into two main sections. The northern half of Harrison is the hamlet of Purchase, while the southern half is divided into four areas: The Brentwood, Sunnyridge, Sterling Ridge, and South Downtown. West Harrison is a neighborhood south of Purchase. A number of large corporations have headquarters within Harrison including MasterCard, Pepsico, and Morgan Stanley. West Harrison is rather isolated from the rest of Harrison due to the bordering Silver Lake and surrounding hills and cliffs. The area contains a number of historic sites and parks including Passidomo Veterans Memorial Park and the site of Battle of White Plains from the Revolutionary War. Fordham University has its Westchester campus located in West Harrison and the State University of New York at Purchase is located in Purchase along with Manhattanville College. Harrison Parks & Recreation provide the community with expansive parkland and recreational facilities including West Harrison Park and Silver Lake. Harrison features two pools, Ron Belmont and Brentwood, which are exclusive to the community. The Sollazzo and Leo Mintzer Centers provide facilities for community sports, educational programs, and fitness centers. The recreation department also sponsors two senior citizen clubs, The West Harrison Group and The Downtown Group. The groups plan and participate in luncheons, a variety of day trips, and exercise classes. Harrison features two libraries serving the West Harrison and Downtown communities.
