Share Info About Great Neck
Great Neck apartments can be found on the northwestern edge Long Island's Nassau County, standing upon some of the prettiest land in the New York City tri-state area. The larger, peninsular Great Neck is surrounded by Manhasset Bay to the east (and, across the water, the neighborhoods of Port Washington and Manorville); by the Long Island Sound to the north ; by Little Neck Bay to the south and west (and the Queens communities of Douglaston and Little Neck), as well as the Nassau County village of Thomaston. The village of Great Neck is within the one-square-mile area that represents the geographic and commercial heart of the Great Neck peninsula. But whether you find a Great Neck apartment near the water or a bit inland, you'll almost certainly be living in a detached single- or multi-family home, a garden apartment complex, or a low- to mid-rise residential building, as the whole Great Neck community is decidedly suburban in character. Whether you're referring to the Village of Great Neck (sometimes called simply "the old village"), or the entire peninsula (or, "neck") there are several apartments available in this Nassau County neighborhood. This neighborhood’s winding streets and luscious landscape are only a fraction of what makes Great Neck so desirable. Surrounded by quiet beaches, this community is home to some of the nicest, most-after real estate in the metropolitan area, but it's not only because it's so lovely looking out here. Manhattan commuters living in Great Neck apartments--and there are many--enjoy a simple train ride via the Long Island Rail Road, which gets you to Midtown’s Penn Station in less than thirty minutes. The Great Neck train station is easy to get to by car, but many Great Neck apartment residents choose to take one of town’s local buses. NY apartments can be found in most all of the hamlets and villages that make up the greater Great Neck community, including the Great Village, Great Neck Plaza, Harbor Hills, Saddle Rock Estates and University Gardens. Great Neck was used by then-resident F. Scott Fitzgerald in his great American masterpiece, The Great Gatsby, as a thinly-disguised inspiration for the town of West Egg, which stood in contrast to the even more luxuriously exclusive East Egg across the water. Great Neck has an abundance of parkland for recreation, both public and quasi-private (for residents only), including Kings Point Park as well as the popular Parkwood swimming pool and skating complex.
