The borough of Glen Ridge is located In Essex County, New Jersey and is home to approximately 7,500 people. A 2010 issue of New Jersey Monthly magazine ranked Glen Ridge among the best places to live in the state. Gas lamps are a trademark of this borough with nearly seven hundred lighting roads and walkways. Glen Ridge spans just over one and a quarter square miles and is bounded by Bloomfield, Montclair, and East Orange. A panhandle in shape, the borough is no wider than six blocks and no narrower than two at any point. Glen Ridge Public schools serve the students of the borough from prekindergarten through the twelfth grade. The district is comprised of four schools, Forest Avenue School, Linden Avenue School, Ridgewood Avenue School, and Glen Ridge High School. New Jersey Monthly magazine ranked Glen Ridge High School fourth in the state out of 322 schools statewide. The Glen Ridge Free Public Library was founded in 1912 and currently possesses 46,000 volumes in addition to CDs, DVDs, and downloadable content. The Glen Ridge Parks and Recreation Department administers a number or programs and activities for its residents in addition to nine parks, a town pool, field hockey and lacrosse fields, playgrounds, tennis and platform tennis courts, and a seasonal skate park. The borough also features a late Victorian and Edwardian aesthetic as result of the original town planning in 1895. Glen Ridge has many public transportation options available to its residents. New Jersey Transit provides bus service to Newark via the 11, 28, and 29. DeCamp Bus Lines operate between Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan. Service is also available from the Glen Ridge station where NJ Transit operates between Midtown Manhattan and the Hoboken Terminal via the Montclair-Boonton Line. Jitney service is also available for commuters to and from the Glen Ridge Station.
