Living In: Edgemere

Share Info About Edgemere
Situated near the base of the Rockaway Peninsula is a neighborhood called Edgemere, which lines the water on two fronts. This residential community is rather small and narrow in size, and packs in only a few dozen homes. When leaving the main section of Queens, you're also leaving behind the typical NY apartment. Rather, rentals in this section of town will most likely be limited to duplexes, triplexes, and a few single-family homes. Snagging one of the available Edgemere apartments means moving to a quiet block near the beach. Much of the neighborhood is made up of single, or double-family homes. There are few front yards, but several driveways--as a car might be a necessary asset, here. A great deal of the duplexes that line the streets are of the same, modern, cubist style. These identical structures can be found scattered about the community, between Beach 32nd and Beach 52nd Streets. Other Edgemere housing follows the typical bungalow style of the Rockaways, while even more buildings seem to mimic the style of homes further down Long Island. Neighborhoods in Southern and Eastern Queens often have little access to the city's vast network of public transportation. Although Edgemere might seem isolated on the Peninsula, it's somewhat of an exception to this. Rather, residents seeking to leave the Rockaways will have few issues when considering the express bus and subway trains that service the neighborhood. The A Train stops at two stations in town--at Beach 36 St and Beach 44 St--but the ride to Manhattan could mean an hour trip or longer, and possibly a transfer. For fewer stops, and a more comfortable trip to Midtown, citizens have the option of taking the QM17 express bus, which also maintains about an hour of travel time to Manhattan. You'll find that the summer is arguably Edgemere's best season. The Peninsula's stretch of beaches and isolated nature provides residents with a great place to relax--one that is just steps from home. If you're in the market for a seaside community put at a distance from the bustling city, try looking at Edgemere apartments. With this nabe on your list, you're one step closer to living by the beach.
