The Incorporated Village of East Williston is a small village in Nassau County, New York. It is located in the town of North Hempstead on Long Island. A small village measuring only slightly larger than a half mile in area it is a thriving suburb popular with families and commuters. Originally, much of the land in the area was owned by the Willis Family, from whom the town receives its name. Although initially a largely farmland, the arrival of the railroad in 1865 increased industry in the village, including brick making, windmill making, and carriage making. One major innovation from this time was the East Williston Runabout Roadcart, a carriage design that originated in the town. The heart of the village includes the East Williston Village Historic District, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. Roughly located between East Williston Avenue, Roslyn Road, Atlanta Ave, and Village Green, this historic district includes mostly intact 19th century and early 20th century residential and commercial buildings. Buildings in the area include the Willis farmhouse, which was built in the early 19th century, and the Station Plaza at the now largely-razed 19th century East Williston Long Island Rail Road station. However, train service does still run from the East Williston station. With service on the Oyster Bay line, commuters in East Williston have easy access into Manhattan and other parts of Long Island via the village's titular Long Island Rail Road station in the south west of the village. Students in East Williston attend schools in the East Williston Union Free School District, which also serves parts of Roslyn Heights, Albertson, Mineola, and Old Westbury. Children in kindergarten through fourth grade attend North Side Elementary School, and then Willets Road Middle School in grades five, six and seven. High school students in grades eight through twelve attend The Wheatley School. Wheatley has organized sport programs in volleyball, basketball, baseball, soccer, track, fencing, swimming, field hockey, softball, tennis, wrestling, and chess. They share football and lacrosse teams with the Carle Place School District. The recreation department in the city of East Williston offers many programs for residents. These include Little League, movie and game nights, Mommy & Me classes, children's dance and art classes, a tennis program, yoga lessons, and more. They also hold a yearly Easter egg hunt in the spring, and a Ragamuffin Parade in the fall. East Williston also has a public library which offers several amenities for members of the community, including story time, book clubs, foreign language classes, crafting classes, Zumba, babysitting workshops, homework help, and more.
